Recommendations of review committee for a lecture given on August 20th, 2016 at ISKCON Seshadripuram, Bangalore by Caitanya Caran Das

Whereas several of the statements made by Caitanya Caran Das during his Bangalore lecture can be easily understood as minimizing the transcendental position of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, founder-ācārya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), as well as the position of the transcendental literature written by His Divine Grace Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Whereas, the followers of ISKCON are bound to glorify and defend the transcendental position of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda due to His preeminent position within ISKCON. As such “All members accepting leadership roles within ISKCON, including diksha gurus and siksha gurus, have the duty of serving together under ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission (GBC) to fulfill Srila Prabhupada’s instructions as he has given in his books, lectures, and personal communications.”1

Whereas, all ISKCON devotees accept Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books as the law books for the next 10,000 years and a systematic presentation of the Absolute Truth.

Whereas the devotees of ISKCON Seshadripuram have been concerned about the philosophical soundness of the content of the above-mentioned lecture and the depth of Caitanya Caran Das’s commitment to the lotus feet of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, founder-ācārya of ISKCON.

Whereas, Caitanya Caran Das has already apologized to the devotees of ISKCON Seshadripuram, yet the issue remains unresolved. As such, the case was brought to the attention of the IIAC, which in turn mandated a review committee to come up with recommendations to rectify the situation.

Review Committee Recommendation

Since Caitanya Caran Das made his statements publicly during his lecture, he should issue a public apology letter to the devotees of ISKCON Seshadripuram, in which he should also retract his controversial statements regarding the perfect position and writings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda.

Some of the statements made by Caitanya Caran Das reflect a doubt or misunderstanding concerning His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda’s absolute position, and the exalted nature of his teachings. It is further recommended that Caitanya Caran Das’s GBC and temple president authorities either directly provide counselling or appoint a counselor that will discuss this issue with him in-depth, and help him to improve his lectures so as to avoid similar controversies in the future.

The above-mentioned authorities are also requested to provide a review assessment on Caitanya Caran Das to the IIAC chairman after six months and one year.

Lastly, we would also like to acknowledge and appreciate Caitanya Caran Das’s efforts to propagate Śrīla Prabhupāda’s mission and wish him all success and growth in Krishna consciousness.
