UPDATE 21st May: See response by Bhaktivaibhava Swami below

Before you start reading this article, you should be careful not to make any offences. It’s not easy to understand activities of pure devotees, ok?

Already two devotees from Czech Republic and Slovakia confirmed that Bhakti Vaibhava Swami owns a brand new BMW for the purposes of performing GBC lila.

As far as garage for new BMW is concerned, we have two versions. One is that garage couldn’t fit BWM, so that they had to extend it, and the other is that brahmacaries had to build garage from scratch.

To fully appreciate this lila, I would like to request devotees from Czech republic to provide me with photos of that magnificent BMW. This would help me to fully appreciate power of pure devotees.

I would need following items:

  • Price tag (estimates go over 40 000 Euros)
  • Model
  • Year of purchase
  • Condition: Was it brand new or used
  • At least one photo with both BMW car and BMW Swami present on the same photo

And also, don’t be afraid, yesterday, pure devotees explain to us how Lord Caitanya ate Mushrooms, today we will quote from Caitanya Caritamrta to prove that sannyasis can possess BMW. As you can see from this verse, even Lord Caitanya possessed BMW:

Kāśī Miśra continued, “If one engages in devotional service for Your satisfaction, this will result in his increasingly awakening his dormant love for You. But if one engages in Your devotional service for material purposes, he should be considered a number-one fool.”

PURPORT

Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura comments that there are many materialistic persons who become preachers, gurus, religionists or philosophers only for the sake of maintaining a high standard of living and sense gratification for themselves and their families. Sometimes they adopt the dress of a sannyāsī or preacher. They train some of their family members as lawyers and continually seek help from a high court to acquire riches on the plea of maintaining temples. Although such persons may call themselves preachers, live in Vṛndāvana or Navadvīpa, and also print many religious books, it is all for the same purpose, namely to earn a living to maintain their wives and children. They may also professionally recite the Bhāgavatam or other scriptures, worship the Deity in the temple and initiate disciples. Making a show of devotional paraphernalia, they may also collect money from the public and use it to cure the disease of some family member or near relative. Sometimes they become bābājīs or collect money on the plea of worshiping the poor, whom they call daridra-nārāyaṇa, or for social and political upliftment. Thus they spread a network of business schemes to collect money for sense gratification by cheating people in general who have no knowledge of pure devotional service. Such cheaters cannot understand that by offering devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one can be elevated to a position of eternal servitude to the Lord, which is even greater than the position of Brahmā and other demigods. Unfortunately, fools have no understanding of the perpetual pleasure of devotional service. (CC Antya 9.69)

Dear Bhaktivaibhava Swami,

please accept my humble obeisances.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Already two devotees from Czech republic and Slovakia confirmed that you
purchased brand new BMW. Can you enlighten me on this lila, especially the
connection between BMW and sannyasi renunciation.

Of course, devotees sometimes rented luxury car to honor Prabhupada, but
Prabhupada never allowed money to be wasted on actually buying such cars.

Hanuman das

Dear Hanuman prabhu,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The car you talk about is not a brand new car, it is second hand car. And I did not buy it, but is has been sponsored by two business people, who wanted
to arrange a car for me. I sold my old car, which had been given before to me and which got too old. The laxmi I had from daksinas would not have been
enough to buy any second hand car. They came up by themselves to buy this car. I did not arrange for it. I mentioned that this car was too fancy for
me and what will others think, but they insisted that I should use it. I accepted their offer. I use it very carefully to make sure that it will last
as many years as possible. The car is also being used for special guests visiting the Czech yatra, because most of the time I am traveling in other
countries. I forgot to mention that I don’t legally own the car, but I can use it.

Your servant,
Bhaktivaibhava Swami

Conclusion

So, in the reply of Bhaktivaibhava Swami, we find a few good defence arguments. First of all, he replied, many other leaders don’t even bother to reply to worm in stool offender like me, because they feel so puffed up and they think that members of this movement should not question their behaviour. But in this case, we got an honest reply.

Secondly, if it is second hand car makes it 20-30% cheaper than brand new.

Thirdly, business people with money brought this initiative, and although Bhaktivaibhava Swami raised issue that a car is too fancy, they insisted. Which means that money from other projects was not diverted to this car.

Fourthly, car is used by other guests, not exclusively by Bhaktivaibhava Swami, which makes is a sort of temple car or yatra car.

The strongest of all arguments is the last one, if car will be shared and used for other guests, then it doesn’t really belong exclusively to Bhaktivaibhava Swami, and this is the most important twist in this story.

Many temples have rooms or cars to serve visiting preachers. Theoretically, they could rent luxury car every time a spiritual master comes, as it was done for Srila Prabhupada, but over the years, that would end up being more expensive.

With that being said, members of this movement should be careful how they spend Krishna’s money, but this particular case is more the exception than the rule in ISKCON.

Additionally, having BMW is not really fun if you don’t have female secretary to share it with, and Bhaktivaibhava Swami is doesn’t have a female secretary.

Additionally, last time I saw him in Zagreb, Bhaktivaibhava Swami was attending mangala-arati, which many ISKCON leaders don’t do, so, it doesn’t look that he is here for the BMW.
