Money-motivated unmotivated devotional serviceHanuman das
You can make money doing unmotivated devotional service.
jobs.iskcon.org website has an interesting ad published on its website. It’s advertisement for a priest position with a salary:
However, Srila Prabhupada was very much against salaries:
Prabhupada:“No one here (in Iskcon) recieves any money, not even a farthing.” Lecture SB. 1.3.23. (L.A. 29-8-72)
Prabhupāda: You take prasādam. But why salary? Where is the question of salary? Where is vairāgya, renouncement? So in all circumstances the salary process should be stopped. One who wants salary, he can work outside. (Conversation: April 28, 1977, Bombay)
Prabhupada:Those who can give voluntary service, “Welcome.” Otherwise we don’t require. At least they should not be given any salary. That is very bad. This is against principle. (Conversation: April 28, 1977, Bombay)
Prabhupada: “If Mr. Chhabria wants to send a Sanskrit teacher there, he can teach Ramanuga and he may teach in a class also, I have no objection, but without salary. Our work is honorary.” letter to Giriraja, 21st June, 1972
Prabhupada:”Our philosophy is ‘simple living and high thinking’–not sense gratification. The temple presidents and leaders (elder students) must show this by example. Temple or asrama means for renunciation and renounced persons. If one is engaged in self-realization process, then his material necessities become almost nil. Persons who do not like this can work outside.” (Letter to Kirtiraja, 75-1-12)
Everything comes from the top, if top sannyasis have the luxury apartments, then others will naturally follow, first temple presidents and pujaris will ask money, and then gradually everybody else. And ISKCON will become a mundane religion just like Christianity. Comfortable living and enjoying a stable income stream in the spiritually utterly useless movement. It’s already started with even gurus have to sign gag orders not to criticize anybody.
Srila Prabhupada’s idea was that full-time members are provided with prasadam and shelter. Of course, if there is additional money collected, temple renunciants can spend it for themselves for going to Holy places in India, for saris for their wife and so on. But if there is no extra money, renunciants should be happy with having a place to live, having prasadam and having the ability to serve Krishna.
Salary is very dangerous because it messes up with the motivation. If you are offering a salary, you will not attract sincere people. You might also attract people who are after money. At that time, it is no longer clear if people are joining for money or for sincerely serving Krishna. This move also goes directly against Srila Prabhupada’s desires. If ISKCON officials are working directly against Srila Prabhupada’s desires, how can they expect to get the mercy of Krishna.
Parasalla is in Kerala, south Indian state, my only question now is who is responsible for this mess. Let’s check GBC zonal assignments:
So, Gestapo Body commissioners for Kerala are Bhanu Swami, Jalapataka Swami and Bhakti Vinoda Swami.
I apologize in advance for telling the truth, which is considered a great offense in a Gestapo society such as ISKCON.
I guess I will not receive a salary from ISKCON any time soon. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My salary is luckily coming from a much better employer, Srila Prabhupada, and Krishna.
