Henry Doktorski – the third, and the whiskey induced racism

Brainless ISKCON members are confused, even when their founder acarya is attacked, they don’t know how to defend him.

This is because ISKCON members are not trained to use their brains. On the contrary, using the brain and fighting for Prabhupada is the last thing that the ruling Gestapo mafia wants them to do. It’s much easier to control the sheep than intelligent men.

I felt indescribable anger when I saw his post claiming that Prabhupada is racist:

Let me translate that for you. Henry Doktorski is no longer a follower of Srila Prabhupada because he thinks Srila Prabhupada is racist. This happens to you if you drink too much whiskey, your cognitive abilities dwindle and you are no longer able to understand the basics of Krishna consciousness.

We are especially honored that Henry – the third, made a Facebook post showing his whiskey collection, that is the first thing he remembered to check after an earthquake:

Cowardly strategy

So, Henry Doktorski trying here to portray himself as the innocent party, because it is not him who is sending these quotes, it’s Mukunda. Furthermore, he accuses Prabhupada of being racist, and then he says “I do not wish to say more on this topic”.

Now, let’s analyze quotes which whiskey induced brain considers to be racist.

The proper explanation

Negroes are envious of the white men

Jayatirtha: Everyone is afraid now, of taking it. The crime rate has become very high.
Prabhupada: Black and white?
Jayatirtha: Yes.
Prabhupada: Negroes are envious of the white men.
Jayatirtha: Yes. In Detroit every year one out of every five hundred people is murdered.
Prabhupada: White man?
Jayatirtha: White men and black men. Usually black men are murdering.
Prabhupada: What is the reason? The same feeling as in India, Hindu Muslim. But it is not so strong.
Brahmananda: No. (end)
Morning Walk, June 26, 1975, Los Angeles

First of all, let’s look at the history of the word “Negro”, today, it looks like a racist word, but it was a commonly used word in the seventies, as explained in Wikipedia:

Since the late 1960s, various other terms have been more widespread in popular usage. These include black, Black African, Afro-American (in use from the late 1960s to 1990) and African American.[12] Like many other similar words, the word “black”, of Anglo-Saxon/Germanic origin, has a greater impact than “Negro”, of French/Latinate origin (see Linguistic purism in English). The word Negro fell out of favor by the early 1970s. However, many older African Americans initially found the term black more offensive than Negro.

Ferris state university website (emphasis mine):

When Did the Word Negro Become Socially Unacceptable?

It started its decline in 1966 and was totally uncouth by the mid-1980s. The turning point came when Stokely Carmichael coined the phrase black power at a 1966 rally in Mississippi. Until then, Negro was how most black Americans described themselves. But in Carmichael’s speeches and in his landmark 1967 book, Black Power: The Politics of Liberation in America, he persuasively argued that the term implied black inferiority. Among black activists, Negro soon became shorthand for a member of the establishment. Prominent black publications like Ebony switched from Negro to black at the end of the decade, and the masses soon followed. According to a 1968 Newsweek poll, more than two-thirds of black Americans still preferred Negro, but black had become the majority preference by 1974. Both the Associated Press and the New York Times abandoned Negro in the 1970s, and by the mid-1980s, even the most hidebound institutions, like the U.S. Supreme Court, had largely stopped using Negro.

So, Srila Prabhupada says here that black people are envious of the white man. In many other places, Srila Prabhupada explains that everybody is envious of the people who are better situated than themselves. So, an average woman is envious of a very beautiful woman, weak man is envious of a man with strong muscles. Ordinary people can become envious of politicians who occupy government posts and have certain influence and power. All these are not racist statements.

In the seventies, white people in America were more affluent than black people. So, no wonder that black people were envious. It was a general statement. It has nothing to do with racism, rather, it is a feature of this material world. Srila Prabhupada explains:

The gṛhasthas are those who live together with wife and children but live transcendentally for realizing the ultimate truth. The gṛhamedhīs, however, are those who live only for the benefit of the family members, extended or centralized, and thus are envious of others. The word medhī indicates jealousy of others. The gṛhamedhīs, being interested in family affairs only, are certainly envious of others. Therefore, one gṛhamedhī is not on good terms with another gṛhamedhī, and in the extended form, one community, society or nation is not on good terms with another counterpart of selfish interest. In the age of Kali, all the householders are jealous of one another because they are blind to the knowledge of ultimate truth. They have many subject matters for hearing-political, scientific, social, economic and so on-but due to a poor fund of knowledge, they set aside the question of the ultimate miseries of life, namely miseries of birth, death, old age and disease. (SB 2.1.2p)

So, in Srila Prabhupada’s teachings, we don’t find examples that black people are specifically more envious than others, rather, all materialistic people are envious of each other.

I don’t think the Negro question is solved

Jñanagamya: Great books have done this. Uncle Tom’s Cabin started a whole war against slavery in the United states. Books and films are very potent. They can make public opinion.
Prabhupada: Books are different thing, we are publishing.
Jñanagamya: In America the Negro situation was very bad, and they made many films showing heroic Negroes and now the situation is much better. The people are not so much agitated by seeing Negroes. They think “Oh, now a Negro has some good qualities.” Because of these films they have come to appreciate. So like that, if a devotee is a hero they will also appreciate.
Prabhupada: Do they? I don’t appreciate. I don’t think the Negro question is solved.
Jñanagamya: No, it’s not, but it is making steps to that end.
Prabhupada: The whites, they do not like the Negroes still. Wherever there are Negroes, in that quarter the whites do not go in. So is it not? They do not go. Although they have been given equal right, but at heart the whites, they do not like it. Is there any improvement? I don’t think. Officially, “Yes, yes, you are good, I am good.”
Room Conversation, August 10, 1976, Tehran

So, the so-called “negro question” is the question of how white people and black people can live in harmony without tension. And in 1976, that question was definitely not solved, and it is not solved even today. In Europe, we are seeing citizens of many countries electing leadership that promises a stable situation without violent riots, rape and drug-related gangs. Governments of Hungary, Poland, Italy, and Austria are fighting against immigration from Africa which mostly consists of black Muslims. Other countries spearheaded by Germany push unlimited immigration and want to redistribute those immigrants to all other countries. Germany itself imports more than one million black people from Africa every year, while Hungary and Poland don’t want to import even one. So, the “negro question” is very much alive even today, nobody can deny it, and it was very much alive in the 1976 in the USA. No matter if you are “right-wing nationalist” or “liberal leftist” you can’t deny that this question exists even today, 46 years since Srila Prabhupada said it is not solved.

But, you can’t understand this if you are under influence of whiskey.

Now they are afraid of them

Brahmananda: So this will be good for us, what is her name? That devotee?
Jagadisa: Malati? Himavati?
Brahmananda: No. That girl devotee.
Prabhupada: Mandakini.
Brahmananda: Mandakini. [break]
Prabhupada: …cious animals also.
Brahmananda: Here?
Ambarisa: The black people from Detroit. (laughter)
Brahmananda: They come here?
Ambarisa: Yes. It’s a very dangerous park.
Prabhupada: No, black?
Brahmananda: The negroes from Detroit, they are the fierce animals that come here at night.
Prabhupada: They come?
Brahmananda: Yes.
Prabhupada: At night? Why?
Jagadisa: Drink.
Brahmananda: Drinking and sex.
Prabhupada: So why the Americans gave them freedom?
Ambarisa: They thought they were being humanitarian.
Prabhupada: And now they are afraid of them.
Ambarisa: Yes.

Car Conversation, August 3, 1975, Detroit

So, Prabhupada is driving in the car, and one of his disciples shows him a “dangerous park”. Brahmananda claims that black people come at night to the park to drink.

Nobody wants to go through the park, which is full of drunk people. So, Srila Prabhupada asks here why they are allowed to drink at night. Should people have the freedom to drink at night at public places like parks? It turns out that many many states don’t allow this. Wikipedia page says:

In the United States, open container laws regulate or prohibit the existence of open containers of alcohol in certain areas, as well as the active consumption of alcohol in those areas. “Public places” in this context refers to openly public places such as sidewalks, parks and vehicles. It does not include nominally private spaces which are open to the public, such as bars, restaurants and stadiums. The purpose of these laws is to restrict public intoxication, especially the dangerous act of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Open container laws are state laws, rather than federal laws; thus they vary from state to state.

The majority of U.S. states and localities prohibit possessing and/or consuming an open container of alcohol in public places, such as on the street, while 24 states do not have statutes regarding public consumption of alcohol.

Now, if you are really evil, you might suggest that question “So why the Americans gave them freedom?” really means “So why the Americans abolished slavery?” However, Srila Prabhupada also wanted to give freedom to black people. In a letter to Satsvarupa, he says that racial issues disappear when devotee is “actually advanced”:

Regarding the black lady in Cleveland, if she is actually serious about Krsna consciousness, give her a little freedom. Just behave with her a little gently, so she may be encouraged to spread Krsna consciousness amongst the blacks. Actually if she preaches the importance of this movement amongst the blacks, it will be more effective. This racial color distinction may continue, but when a devotee is actually advanced these things will disappear. Therefore we have to be a little tactful how to induce people to take to Krsna consciousness seriously. (Letter to Satsvarupa, Delhi, Nov 2, 1973)

So, Srila Prabhupada actually encourages his disciple to stop being racist and ignore the “racial color distinction”, which is a sign of advancement. But, when you drink whiskey and insult Srila Prabhupada, it is hard to make advancement. What kind of racist would say that racial color distinction doesn’t exist for advanced people. Indirectly, Srila Prabhupada says here that only neophytes can be racist.

They are not very much cultured

Reporter (2): Do you have a large number of American negroes in your movement, Swamiji?
Prabhupada: Not large number, but there are.
Reporter (2): Is there any reason why that is so?
Prabhupada: That is…. There is reason. They are not very much cultured.
Conversation with News Reporters, March 25, 1976, Delhi

Srila Prabhupada preached that when you stop eating meat, drinking alcohol, and having illicit sexual relationships, you become cultured.

That was his general preaching strategy. So, this might look like a racist statement only if you are not familiar with the general preaching direction of Krishna consciousness. So, yes, Srila Prabhupada said that blacks are uncultured, but he also said that British are uncultured. He also said that communists are uncultured.

Sumati Morarjee: That was returned. So that I put pressure on the British. That’s how we got back the ships. Otherwise we would have lost those two ships.
Prabhupāda: They’re very uncultured. (Conversation, July 5, 1972, London)

Because they have no Kṛṣṇa consciousness, their brain is a workshop of the devil. That’s all. Harer nāma harer nāma… [Cc. Ādi 17.21]. (pause) And without culture men are becoming rogues and thieves, uncultured. Communist movement. Atheistic… Everywhere, nobody’s happy. The government’s duty, first duty should be that everyone is happy. That is described in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, during the time of Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira. Even there was no natural disturbances. No excessive heat, no excessive cold. No anxiety. People are dying now out of anxieties. They’re becoming mad, committing suicide, drinking liquors more and more. Just for anxiety. When they cannot solve any big problem, “Bring bottle.” Is it not? (April 30, 1973)

Their nature has not changed

Prabhupada: This road is very infamous.
Hari-sauri: Very infamous?
Prabhupada: Yes, means notorious. They say that black men, they capture white women.
Tamala Krsna: Oh, yes, I’ve seen it. When I was very young I saw it. I was playing in the park, because I lived next to Central Park, and this, these… We were playing with my friend and his sister, and this black man jumped and grabbed her and raped her right in Central Park. I was only about six years old.
Prabhupada: And what was the age of the girl?
Tamala Krsna: About twelve. So I have personal experience. Especially in the upper part of this park, about Eighty, Ninetieth, Hundredth Street, there it’s very dangerous. Where we are on Fifty-ninth street, it’s not very dangerous. And on the east side down here it’s not that dangerous.
Prabhupada: Just see these black men living in such a highly rich country, and civilized men, but their nature is not changed. Angara satatau tena(?), but they can be changed only in Krsna consciousness. No other way. Kirata-hunandhra-pulinda-pulkasa…
Morning Walk, July 11, 1976, New York

Here, Prabhupada is referring to the incident which happened on the road that what they were walking through.

Then, immediately, Srila Prabhupada says that everybody’s nature can be changed through Krishna consciousness. This is the best anti-racist statement ever.

But, was Prabhupada wrong? Did he accuse black people of something which is not evident in society? Well, we can see some stats provided by the racist FBI:

According to the FBI, African Americans accounted for 52.4% of all homicide offenders in 2018, with Whites 43.1% and “Other”/Unknown 4.4%. Of these, 15.4% were Hispanic or Latino. The per-capita offending rate for African Americans was roughly six times higher than Whites, and the victim rate is a similar figure. Most homicides were intraracial, with 81% of White victims killed by Whites and 89% of African American victims killed by African Americans.

So, so out of all homicide offenders: black people are 50%. This means out of every two murders, one was performed by a black person. But at the same time, black people are only 12.7 % of the total USA population. So, how the 12.7% of the population does 50% of homicides in the country? Due to nature which is not changed. Just look at Africas numbers, and everything will be clear:

The homicide rate on the African continent is higher than the global average, and far higher than the rates found in Europe or Asia, according to a report released Monday by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC).

The Global Study on Homicide 2019 report puts the African homicide rate at 13 victims per 100,000 people, with the global rate at 6.1 victims.

Of course, we can debate why 12% of the population is responsible for 50% of the murders in the country, but Srila Prabhupada’s statement is very much substantiated by reality, evidence and statistics.

During his 12 years of his traveling throughout the west and establishing his worldwide movement, Srila Prabhupada constantly emphasized that every man should be accepted based on his qualifications. Hundreds and hundreds of times he fought against the misconceptions of the caste system. Just because somebody is born in the family of brahmana, doesn’t mean that he is automatically brahman. Rather, he has to develop the qualities of brahmana:

When the brāhmaṇa class or caste gradually became easygoing, being fed by the society although they had no brahminical qualifications, they degraded themselves into brahma-bandhus, or disqualified brāhmaṇas, and thus other members of society also gradually fell down from the social standard of progressive life. As described in Bhagavad-gītā, the caste system is the creation of the Lord and is arranged according to the quality of work rendered to society and not in terms of birthright, as falsely claimed in the present degraded society. (SB 3.3.27p)

The Indian caste system is a very similar ideology to western racism ideology. So, white supremacists may claim that just by the fact that they are born white, they are superior to black people. But we can see that Srila Prabhupada held exactly the opposite view from racists:

The Indian culture has failed at the present moment because instead of considering the qualifications, they accept only the birth: The birth in a brāhmaṇa family makes a man a brāhmaṇa. No. That is not the shastric injunction. Qualities. There must be qualities. (Lecture SB 2.2.5, Mar 5, 1975)

The age of the Absolute Mayavada

We are living in the age of Absolute mayavada. Every race and nationality must be accepted as exactly the same. Otherwise, you are racist. So, if you say that Swiss people are better businessmen and bankers than Albanians, you are racist. If you say that black people play basketball better than Eskimos, you are racist.

According to the teachings of Krishna consciousness, every person is different and every nation is different, depending on the modes of the material nature that they are situated in. That doesn’t mean that one nation should mistreat other nations, but diversity is present everywhere in Krishna’s kingdom.

If you are a follower of the absolute sameness fairy tale, then not only Srila Prabhupada is racist, but Srimad Bhagavatam is also racist. Srimad Bhagavatam names low races that can be purified by practicing Krishna consciousness:

Kirāta, Hūṇa, Āndhra, Pulinda, Pulkaśa, Ābhīra, Śumbha, Yavana, members of the Khasa races and even others addicted to sinful acts can be purified by taking shelter of the devotees of the Lord, due to His being the supreme power. I beg to offer my respectful obeisances unto Him. (SB 2.4.18)

So, the beauty of Krishna consciousness is that it correctly describes the material world. There is no racial discrimination or any other type of discrimination. Everybody is welcome to practice Krishna consciousness.

The most powerful poet, philosopher, and divine personality Srila Prabhupada writes this wonderful purport to the above verse:

The devotees are interested only in seeing that the people in general are not misguided by political propaganda and in seeing that the valuable life of a human being is not spoiled in following a type of civilization which is ultimately doomed. If the politicians, therefore, would be guided by the good counsel of the devotees, then certainly there would be a great change in the world situation by the purifying propaganda of the devotees, as shown by Lord Caitanya. As Śukadeva Gosvāmī began his prayer by discussing the word yat-kīrtanam, so also Lord Caitanya recommended that simply by glorifying the Lord’s holy name, a tremendous change of heart can take place by which the complete misunderstanding between the human nations created by politicians can at once be extinguished. And after the extinction of the fire of misunderstanding, other profits will follow. The destination is to go back home, back to Godhead, as we have several times discussed in these pages.

Does Srila Prabhupada call here for any kind of racial discrimination? No, he is trying to make everybody happy, and he is giving advice that would bring the whole world into harmony. Let me eternally be dedicated to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada and may Krishna always keep me away from drunkards and whiskey drinkers who consider themselves qualified to call Srila Prabhupada racist.

Response by Mukunda

Around the same time (June 2020), Mukunda, the “original racist” made the whole video exposing Henry Doktorski’s vision of Prabhupada as a racist. You can listen to it here
